I cut my dog's tongue. Will it stop bleeding on its own?

I was grooming my dog and while I was cutting some of his hair he stuck his tongue in the way. When he did this I accidently cut the end of his tongue. It's almost in the center of his tongue and it only goes about 1/4-1/2 inch back. It's been bleeding for a while now and I am beginning to worry. I called the vet and he said they usually do not stitch up their tongues and that it should be fine. How long will the bleeding last. It's not gushing and it only seems to get worse if he starts licking things.

He only weighs five pounds and I am so scared that he is going to gradually bleed to death.

Oh my gosh that is horrible!! Sounds like it was an accident but you really really need to be more careful...

If your that worried I would call the vet back and tell him about the excessive bleeding...it deosnt sound like its too bad..but let an actual animal expert tell you what to do...

Just try to stop the bleeding. Use a cloth and try to let him get lots of water. And don't feel bad, its not like you meant for it to happen.

You should put a wet cloth on his tongue. Dont worry, they cant bleed to death, btu it is important that you take care of him. Since hes so small, he could lose alot of blood. Just keep holding it . If it doesnt stop in an hour or so, take him to the vet. Maybe they will give you some medicine to stop the bleeding. And he could also stop eating because it hurts. So good luck!

dont worry he is not goin to die just hold a paper towel on there for a bout 2 minute andd give him some water and a treat but dont panic or else he will get scare too.p.s his tonge will hurt so give him the soft wet food

Try giving your dog an ice cube. Dogs like to chew on them and that will help the bleeding stop and help stop any swelling that may occur.

don't fill bad sweetie s*#! happens the dog will be fine a dog has a natural antibiotic in they're saliva that is ten times more potent that human antibiotics so don't worry by tomorrow morning you wont even see the cut any more and i am sure you beloved pet forgives you ,you are a good pet momma we all make mistakes by the way i am a vet tech i know what i am talking about and a paper towel will just make you pup mad at you for sticking something in its mouth

call another vet, your small dog could lose a lot of blood and need a transfusion. You could apply pressure to the tongue with a gauze pad (sterile) you can get them from the pharmacy. Hopefully it will stop soon but call another vet,

yes it will stop on its own but keep an eye on it and dont let your dog lick anyhing if it gets worse when it does.
