My dog has licked his foot so much that his hair came off. He doesn't limp but he is sensitive when we touch it. I thought I saw a puss pimple but it is no longer there. Any ideas on this?

There could be a small puncture would or foreign body in the paw. It could also be a contact allergy. My best professional advice is to have him examined and make sure that nothing serious is happening and to have it treated. Sometimes it takes a thorough and close exam to figure out a relatively simple problem.
Hope this helps
Good luck

My dog does the same thing. Our vet said its jsut allergies. You can get stuff for it at a petstore or vet. But jsut incase, take it to a vet. It might be something different. What kind of dog is it?

my dogs lick their feet a lot too. sometimes they just do that because they stepped on something that tastes good to them. it probably itches because he's licked it so much. take him to the vet though. good luck!

not uncommon for a lot of dogs, especially depending on the area you live in. the best thing is to get him to stop licking it because it can lead to a hot spot/open wound that become infected. you can do with with an e-collar/satellite collar, the lamp shade looking thing. there is also a steroid shot most vets offer the helps reduce the allergic reaction, called vetalog, its like a cortizone. you can do it up to every 3 weeks, it does however cause increased thirst, which means urination, as in every hour or 2 will need to go outside the first few days.

my dog had something very similar with his paw last summer. it turned out to be something embedded under the skin, and the vet had to give him a local, open it and flush out whatever it was. she didnt see anything, but she must have flushed it out, because he was fine after that. they may also give antibiotics, to clear up any infection. id get him checked out, just in case. i waited too long with my guy, and he ended up sick from the infection (although he did improve quickly and is fine now). good luck.

i would first make sure it does not smell bad, that means infection.in this area we have alot of foxtails (those arrow looking stickers that are smooth one way but the other direction they are like tiny needles. they get inside of animals ears and paws, they can only go in deeper and deeper, soon it will swell up around it with infection so you wont see it.the real common is in between their toes.my other thought was if your dog is licking both feet pay close attention to what he is eating.there is a common ingredient in most dog foods that my dog is alergic to, ground corn meal or yeast, im not quite sure, i just try to stay away from both of them.when i first noticed him continuously licking his paws i brought it up to the vet, not giving any thought to(compard to now)how ugly and rough his hair felt(he is a mutt, with long hair)the vet told me to change his food omitting 4 or 5 ingrediants that alot of dogs are alergic too.he said i was lucky to have found the problem so easily because it could get expensive testing to see what is causing the reaction.anyway, i had also noticed, after the vet said something, that Rowdy would often stand in front of his dish and actually paw out his entire bowl of food, leave the room for a while and then come back and eat it.it is posible for them to even know what it is they are alergic to, they just cant tell you.but if you see your dog food getting pawed out of the bowl or, the quicker way, slaping their paw on the edge of their bowl and flinging that stuff out of their bowl, they are trying to tell you something.Rowdy has a thick beautiful and shiny coat now and he lays down in front of his bowl and eats his food.i have not seen him licking his paws since then. good luck.
