What breed of dog would be best for her?

My grandma's dog, had to be put to sleep a few days ago. She really loved that dog, and now it breaks my heart.... she said she wanted another dog, one that doesn't shed too much,( Like the hair of a beagle but maybe longer) medium sized, doesn't bark or howl alot, and protective. What dog would be best for her? She said she didn't want a pitbull. So, thanks!

I think your grandma can consider the following breeds cos they are medium sized, don't shed too much and do not bark or howl a lot and protective:

1. Bulldog

2. Basenji

3, Boston Terrier

Hope this helps :-)

no one can tell her what breed is best for her. she needs to find a dog that fits her lifestyle. tell her to do some research. start at akc.org. look through all the breeds read the profiles and standards and see what she likes. no one can tell her what to do.

dogs bark and howl! Try getting a basengji they never bark, but they yodel these tybe of dog can't bark.

I think a schnauzer would be perect for her. Standard, or mini. They are great dogs and do not shed.

My dog is a pointer/Pitbull/basenji. Actually pitbulls are very nice if you don't train them to be aggressive but whatever. My dog barely sheds. I suggest a pointer or basenji. Basenji's actually can't bark, but are VERY protective, but not to much so. They make this weird noise hat kinda sounds like a baby cring sometimes.

take her to an animals shelter and let her get aquanted to all the dogs. then she can choose.

p.s. RIP your grandma's old dog :-(

Well...a beagle is a shedder, so I'm not sure. Maybe she can rescue one of the same breed she had? Check out this link for some ideas.

I'm sorry about your grandma's loss; it's really a hard thing to go through.

How about taking her to a shelter and let her look at all the dogs there. One of them just might steal her heart.

It all depends on what she likes and how much time she wants to devote to it where she lives will the dog be inside or out does she exercise. If she has a house with a large yard that is fenced in and she is active and likes to walk she may want a med. to large dog but if she live in a apartment or doesn't have a fenced in yard or tires easy she may want a small dog. I have a Yorkie Maltese mix and I love him he gets along with the whole family including my 3 year old he loves to be cuddled. He doesn't shed very much ( all dogs shed some, and all dogs bark) he's not a yappy dog but there is always someone home with him . He does need to be groomed often we brush him every night but it only takes a couple of min. He gets enough exercise just running through the house. Everyone is different as are dogs I researched dog breeds for about 6 months before I decided what kind I wanted and then it took me a while to find one that I would buy that wasn't coming from a puppy mill. my dog came from a lady who has 4 dogs and they are all taken to the vet on a regular basis and they are loved as part of her family

If she is against the idea of going to a shelter i would suggest a scottie dog, a yorkie or a cockapoo.. hey are all gramma type pups

What breed of dog would be best for her?

try to find her a bull terrier.they are NOTHING like the pit bull.they are calm and very loyal.they are happy if you love them.they also have minis..if that isnt good, try a boston terrier.they are great elderly dogs

I think a Bulldog would be great, mine rarely barks. They are super friendly, but not many people will mess with them.
