I have a 3 year old doberman that just recently finished his last rounds of radiation therapy. He eating has been slowly decreasing over the past month or so, but now its down to almost nothing. He has a nasal tumor, and we have not found out yet if the treatments worked. We have tried everything! The side effects of the treatments just started about 2 weeks ago--his hair feel out around his nose and eye and it looks like a bad burn. I was wondering if his sense of smell is not working that great right now and that's why. We have a vets appointment tomorrow.
Dog with cancer that won't eat?!?!?
I am so sorry to hear this. I would try to see if he will eat anything, be it hamburgers, chicken %26amp; rice, or even a steak!! I am sure the radiation is making him feel terrible %26amp; has no appetite.
From one dobie lover to another, my heart aches for you %26amp; your boy.
I hope all goes well at the vet tomorrow %26amp; he is able to help out alot!! In the mean time I'd try to feed your dog anything that he may want to eat!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

If he's stopped eating completely, I wouldn't wait until tomorrow to see the vet. Is he still drinking water? Best to give the vet a call now and get his medical advice. Better safe than sorry, you know.

Call the vet and info him/her whats going on.

It is possible that your dog doesn't have a sense of smell or taste. You could try giving the dog some broth and that will at least give it some added nutrition if it's not eating dog food. Still offer both foods. Your Vet should be able to give you more answers and suggestions. Good Luck with your dog and I pray that the treatments were successful!!!

I would keep your appointment for the vet tomorrow, but I would at least call and tell them what is going on. They may have some suggestions for you in the mean time.
It never hurts to call.

It's possible he's lost his sense of smell.
Also when humans have radiation therapy they feel awful.
My nan went through it about 20yrs ago, she looked and felt terrible and really struggled to want to eat. I'm guessing this may well be the case for your boy.
Your best bet is to speak to your vet tomorrow and get professional advice, but in the meantime have you tried something like sardines or pilchards?
They smell quite strong.
Hope your dog makes a full recovery :-)

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Hopefully your vet can help.
Have you tried serving food slightly warmed? What about a meat (chicken, beef) broth? With our last dog, I pur鑼卐d her food and added a enough warm broth so she was able to lick it up.
