About a week ago my dog got these little bumps all over his head. They are like little scabs underneath the hair and if you do anything to them, they fall off and it takes the hair with it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this poor animal? He has a vet apointment on Thursday, but I was just wondering if anyone knew?

Maybe old bites from litter mates... bacterial infection (staph infection)...maybe even ringworm. if the skin scrap shows nothing he might want to do a fungal test too, if not that then some type of allergy. My pup had it..thought it was mange..but it was ringworm. She had bumps that was a skin infection but also the places that scabbed off and left a bald spot was ringworm. It lives in the ground and puppies are more susceptible to it. It takes alot of work and time to get it gone. Hopefully it's nothing big. Good luck.

Sounds a lot like mange. Good that you're going to the vet since humans can catch some types of mange from their pet.

the main thing you can do is try to change his diet. Make sure he is eating good quality dog food and not processed food like Iams, Eukanuba and the bunch of other supermarket, over advertised foods.
Merrel and Old Mother Hubbard Wellness are one of the good foods. When you read the ingredients, you will see that the first are not anything like chicken by products, or chicken meal.

don't change your dog's diet until you see your vet. a diet change can make things worse until your vet determines what it is. it could be anything from a skin infection, to dry skin, to allergies to mange. sorry i can't be more help but only a vet that actually lays hands on the dog is going to give you any type of actual answer. anything you try to do before thur might either make the condition worse or make it more difficult for the vet to diagnose. good luck.

off to the vet! it does sound a bit like mange, is your dog young? has the dog been exposed to other dogs you may not normally be around (e.g. dog park)?

look up PYODERMA
IF it is, and your vet confirms it, try
Malesab shampoo with a dose of antibiotics and a antihistimine (chlortrimeton) types...will clear it up. Check the diet of your dog, sometimes it is food related or environmentallly stimulated. My bulldog used to get them seasonally, sometimes turning into oozy itchy stuff, once on antibiotics, low dose and antihistimines these no longer were issues...
