Dog blisters?

My dog has had little bald spots on her elbows where she lies on them alot and rubs them against things so it causes her to lose her hair. I brought her to the vet a few months ago and i was told that this is fine and normal. At noon today, I realised that she has what appears to be blisters on one side. I think that it is from her rubbing it against the couch to much, but my mom thinks that possibly something bit her and it blistered. Are these answers possibly what happened, or if not, what else could it be. It is not cancer, as we just checked but we have to bring her to the vet within a week if the blisters are still there. Has this ever happened to anybody? If so, what was it and what did you have to do. I love my dog and just want to help her because when I pointed it out to my mom at lunch my dog noticed and now she seems to be licking it alot.

awe poor baby .my dog gets what they called hot spots .they gave me a spray to help heal try to keep her from licking it so much if its drying out it probably itches.good eye on catching it cuz a lot of people out there don't.i know vet is expensive but better to be safe then sorry!!

Maybe she layed outside on an area where it was hot??? Without seeing it, it's hard to tell, but all sorts of things happen to dogs if they lay on a certain area of their bodies a lot, or lick and area frequently. Just watch it and if it starts getting better, don't worry about it.

Dog blisters?

this is common,,, just rub vaseline on them everyday... soon they will be gone and new hair will reappear....relax

Elbows. Bald spots. Licking spots. Rubs against the couch. Blisters. Lies in the grass.

My first suspicion would be contact dermatitis --allergy from toching something--most likely in the grass or her bedding. Could be fleas. Could be simply grass allergies, or even allergies to your laundry soap used for the bedding. If you use TIDE or GAIN laundry soap, both frequently cause allergic reactions .

Allergies have a cycle of irritation, followed by rubbing or licking followed by sores that erupt and become infected. I really doubt that fleas is the cause as they usually do not congregate at the elbows. Since elbows are always in contact with bedding, flooring, or grass I am more inclined to suspect a laundry soap, floor cleaning product or a basic allergy to grasses. Carpet cleaning products, and many of the cleaning products for kitchen floors will cause allergies in dogs--lysol, mr clean, pinesol are especially troublesome.

You will have to eliminated one product at a time and wait 2 weeks to see a change. This will take some time.

Meanwhile, take her to a groomer or to your vet for a good bath once a week for a month. This will give the sores a chance to get regularly cleaning and possibly not require prescription shampoos from the vet; sometimes the prescription shampoos will be too drying and cause secondary infections that require yet another shampoo.

This will take awhile, but be very selective as you change things in her environment and wait for results so you can figure out the problem and correct it.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

I made some elbow pads for my dog. Just a thick tube, like a thick sock or something that goes over her elbow. Maybe a sleeve from an old coat. Put one on each elbow and attach a band on each one over her back. Leave it on till it's healed. Also try some good foot cream. Dr. Scholl's has a Cracked Skin cream that's great.

After it's healed try some skin-toughening products like Tuff-foot. http://www.tuffoot.com/
