My dog was taken out of my yard by some ladies having a yard sale and the ladies gave him away. So I posted flyers and ads on the internet for him. A man called and said that he had my dog but it got loose. I went to the man's house and he told me everything he could about when my dog got loose. Well I keep posting flyers and ads and I finally got a call from a lady and her son. The woman said that her son's friend's family had my dog. I've contacted the family and they won't give me my dog back. I know where they live, what they drive, where they work, and the way they live. Is there anyway I can make them give me my dog back. I mean what kind of legal action can I take. My dog wasn't tatoo'd or micro chipped. I can get documents saying where I had taken him to the vet when he got hit by a car, pictures of him since he was a pup to recent photos, and I even have samples of his hair. Has anyone else had this happened to them and what became of their pet?

I am in the exact same situation! My dog was stolen by the guy I adopted him from. I am the same evidence as you also, no microchip or tatoo. The police are useless but you should call to make a police report even if they say it is a civil situation, which it is. Let me tell you I understand. I have been living and breathing this situation for 2 months now and have not seen my "baby" as of tomorrow for 2 months. You need to hire a lawyer and sue the family for conversion of property. (that's civil theft). Also the more paperwork you have the better. Get statements from everyone who has seen you with the dog and all bills, even food bills. I'm in the middle of suing and waiting to get him back, but according to my lawyer we will get him back. You most certainly can call the police or the sheriff and they can meet you at this person's house. Bring whatever proof you have of this being your dog. This can be a hard situation. I would post it on the legal board and see what you come up with. For one thing, the people who have the dog now, it wasn't their fault that the dog was taken from your yard and I think that would be one argument they can make. Do you know the ladies who took the dog or did anyone see them actually go into your yard and take it? Now...since you have photos, vet records etc., you possibly could force them to give the dog back by going to court.
