My dog's eyes have gone bald, can anyone help?

Recently we had a new baby and moved. Around this time my chihuahau's eyes became bald. All the hair fell out around them and then a scab grew on each side of his nose and keeps re-opening. The Vet said it was stress and to wait and see how he does in a few months. That was in Oct and now it's Jan and just is bad if not worse. Has anyone had this problem and can give me some advise? I know I need to take him to a Vet here in our new town, but I talked to one and they said they didn't know what it could be... HELP!

A possibility would be that he is self injuring from stress. Once a dog becomes OCD like this, it is difficult to stop. You might try an e-collar to keep him from rubbing himself and causing hair loss. Some vets try meds for OCD too.

If he isn't doing this to himself then mange would be the first thing to rule out.

Did you move far or into a different weather? It could be allergies

i would say go to a diffrent vet

he probably just hasent seen that problem

before or he doesnt know what hes doing

but im suree others will know how to help

and try to keep the dog awa from the child

and other stressful things

give him his own room

and than just try to calm him down

and spend lots of time with it .

Your dog needs some bloodwork and a skin scraping to accurately diagnose the cause of this hair loss and skin irritation. Any other balding or scabbed areas? Could be anything from allergies, to mange, to an immune disorder. No way to know though without some testing.

Oh that is disappointing, how can a vet say thing like that. Any way just look for a more experienced vet. Meanwhile try to seek an advise from a petshop owner bec he/she has a vast knowledge about pets and could recommend some cure or could give you dos and dont's. Read also labels from dog shampoos. When our dog named bambi showed signs of baldness our vet changed her shampoo and we are told to apply cream to the bald part of her body. Now she is ok and her hair is shining.

Not stress.

Demodectic mange or malassezia dermatitis, even both.

Diagnosis thru skin scraping and microscopy.

Treatment for malassezia: wash in malaseb or nizoral. Apply daktarin or equivalent cream.

Treatment for Demodex: dectomax injection or Bayer Advocate topical treatment.
