I want a second dog. I'm interested in a weimaraner, boxer, great dane or another golden retrie

I am a 23 year-old full time teacher with a 9 month old desexed male golden retriever. I would like to get a second dog soon but can't decide which breed. I love goldens but I HATE the long hair and don't know if I could handle even more blonde hair on my carpets! I am commited to obedience training a second dog and exercising for at least 1/2 an hour every night with them. I would also like to get involved in agility or flyball in the future. There may also be children in my life sometime in the next 5-10 years so a dog that is accepting of this is a must. Which breed would suit my current situation best? Thanks so much for any advice or suggestions you can give me.

I have a Boxer, They are a great breed they love other dogs and are great with all people.

The dont shed much hair and its very short when they do.

They are very playful amd enagetic so your dog you already have and your new boxer can wear eachother out all day playing (WHICH BOXERS LLOOVVEE TO DO) and will still have energy for you in the evening.

They are a amazing breed and they are always cute and look like big puppies.

Good luck mate.

I had a Great Dane and she was fantastic as a companion. I got her as a puppy and she was easy to train. After she grew up a little bit she and I went for long walks at least twice a day and I didn't have trouble with her pulling on the leash or trying to tangle me up in it. She loved to go for car rides and of course had to sit shotgun. It was kind of disconcerting to other drivers when I'd pull up next to them at a stoplight and she stick her head out so far she'd be practically in their car--and she was on the small size for a Great Dane.

Maintenance was easy--not much shedding, but I was careful about regular grooming. I did have her ears cropped which I don't think I would do again. She looked great with the perky ears, but it must have hurt.

My son was around 8 then and she was wonderful with him--very protective. She wasn't around anyone younger than that on a regular basis so I don't know what her reaction would have been. If someone came to the door, she would put herself between the door and the family member opening it.

Drawbacks: because of the size she was prone to "twisted stomachs" just like other big breeds, cows, and animals in the deer family. We had to rush her to the vets a couple times because of it and that's what she eventually died of when she was about 4. Also, she could smell food a block away. One time I was making dinner rolls for supper and I left the dough on the counter to "rest" for a couple minutes before shaping it. I went to answer the phone and when I came back she had put her front paws on the counter and ate the dough--the whole thing. Emergency call to the vet, lots of perioxide, Pepto Bismo, walking and watching the clock to time her progress. The vet gave her a couple hours and if it wasn't passed or her stomach didn't shrink (you could see it expanding from the yeast) she would've needed emergency surgery. Oh, and cleaning up after her took effort--numerous bms and large!

Very loving and affectionate to every family member. If I were to get another dog, I'd seriously consider another Great Dane. Unfortunately where I live the reputable breeders charge a fortune--much more than other places I've lived.
